Endometriosis is medically defined to be associated with pelvic and abdominal pains. It is a disorder in which tissues that make up the inner lining of the uterus grows out of the womb or are present on various other organs inside the body.
Endometrial tissues grow within a woman’s uterus to prepare the body for ovulation and possibly fertilization. The tissues are seen to be made up of blood cells which unusually thickens every month until pass out as menstruation if fertilization does not occur. It can be located on the human body in the lower part of the abdominal region.
Endometrial tissues deposited in an unusual place outside the womb by the retrograde menstrual flow debris from inside the fallopian tubes way into the pelvic and abdominal cavities are medically attested to be the reason for endometriosis.
Endometriosis causes can sometimes stem from past surgeries involving the uterus, and this occurs in most cases when there is imbalance in estrogen. Other endometriosis causes can be traced to genetic link, maybe someone in the family had had it before.
However, endometriosis symptoms vary between different individual as the case may be and this largely depends on the woman’s cycle of menstruation which do worsen in the days leading up to menstrual bleeding. The victim experiences pains in the lower part of the abdomen and the vagina, which can be more pronounced during sexual intercourse or while defecating.
Usually, these symptoms in the body include irregular and painful menstruation, it can also be detected when there is abdominal fullness, cramping or gastrointestinal, and in rare cases infertility can be diagnosed.
Endometriosis treatment do vary. It is usually based on how severe the pain is. Sometimes, a simple hot water bath or a cup of hot water can ease the pain, but for some victims, pain relievers such as non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) help reduce the painful menstrual cramps. Also, there are some rare cases which requires that surgery is carried out; but that is always the last resort.
Medically, endometriosis grows by exposure to the female hormone- estrogen, some hormones reduces the production of estrogen in the body, which means endometriosis will be unable to grow and relieve the pains.
In the case of endometriosis and pregnancy, pregnancy temporarily halts the painful periods and heavy menstrual bleeding. Women who have endometriosis get pregnant naturally but some have some issues becoming pregnant if the endometriosis is severe. There are possible problems like the embryo traveling down the tube and implanting in the wall of the uterus due to damage from endometriosis, or blockage of fallopian tube. A surgery called laparoscopy can be done for pregnant woman with endometriosis to reduce some effect after which the patient lives on pills till she is ready to conceive.
As critical as it is, endometriosis can be prevented by taking plenty fruits, vegetables and whole grains, limit the intake of caffeine and cut down on processed foods.
