Entrepreneurs know that their company’s ability to innovate and scale is the key to ongoing success. Also, in order to address lifestyle diseases, spend on drug research, create healthy programs for lots of cases like obesity/diabetes, invest in invasive surgery centers and world health organization data, create lifestyle diseases advisory boards, and more — yet these investments have not helped at reducing the lifestyle diseases world statistics significantly never mind more predictably.
Also, for most lifestyle diseases, medical textbook therapeutic protocols remain a trial and error process, yielding failure rates that are consistently higher over the years. The question is: why? What is the cause of this failure for lifestyle diseases? With 25 years’ experience studying this problem, Healology can offer an explanation: While executives, managers and entrepreneurs agree that the goal of innovation is to create products and services that address unmet customer needs, same struggle happens for lifestyle diseases’ predictably. Most people do not agree on what a “need” even is. As a result, when it comes to lifestyle diseases most professions struggle to reach agreement on what your needs are, which of those needs are unmet, and to what degree. They also struggle to discover segments of complexities with unique sets of unmet needs.
Despite the fact that all healthcare professions have access to more patient data than ever before, they lack the information needed to effectively evaluate the emotional and related needs to help their clients and leverage it for a healthy and happy life. In other words, many clients struggle to heal or control their condition because they have yet to have the skills needed to define, prioritize and use the inputs that lead to predictable health outcomes.
Without a system for evaluating lifestyle diseases which inputs are needed, clients are forced to guess at which solutions or will win in the health results. Not surprisingly, they often guess wrong with a one size fits all temporary conventional solutions/protocols. Clients cope by adopting different suggested techniques (professional or neighbor’s advice) for pivoting disease but failing at health results, which do little to help them make the desired health to begin with. The problem with lifestyle diseases is clear: without knowing precisely what the inner conflict theme (root cause) you are trying to heal, your chances of actually healing it are slim. This problem is universal.
In 2017, I proposed a solution to this problem: to gain deep insight into the patient’s needs, practitioners should stop focusing only on the lifestyle disease symptoms and the effected organ and instead aim to understand the “underlying process” (or “inner conflict” as Dr. Dean Ornish called it) the patient is trying to attain health when they are using a drug or therapy.
The theory holds that to offer a drug or therapy that will help clients, health professionals must first understand what fundamental measures of emotional unmet needs those clients that can be used to measure therapeutic success when getting their health on track. To obtain this understanding, Healology suggests that we break down the client’s underlying “dis-ease” into discrete process steps and ascertain from them what must be measured and controlled to ensure the health is attained with the speed, predictability, and effectiveness they desire. Healology calls these uniquely constructed performance metrics the patients’ desired health outcomes. They possess distinctive characteristics (measurable, controllable, stable over time, permanent solutions, multi-purpose) that make them the Lifestyle disease “hacks” and the perfect input into the healing process.
With insight into which of the patients’ 100 or more environmental habits in thinking, feeling and doing are underserved, clients are able to focus their therapeutic and ideation efforts on the specific “root cause” and then evaluate their therapy against those same conventional performance metrics to determine if their therapeutic protocols for the “lifestyle disease” will help the client get health better. Knowing whether or not a therapeutic concept/idea will help the client get the therapeutic results significantly better, in advance of drug or therapy development, is key to ensuring the predictability of the therapeutic/healing process.
What makes Healology unique is that Dr. Hanan has been applying it in clinical techniques for 25 years and it has a proven track record. How good is it? Put another way, a study called the “institute of noetic sciences showed that the methodology makes healing to health 5-times more predictable”.
The Healology process is intuitive: if a client knows what target (root cause) to heal, the chances of healing it increase dramatically. For example, there is less than a one percent chance that a therapy will randomly improve with a solution that addresses all the unmet emotional needs in a lifestyle disease if the client is unaware that the emotional or inner conflict exists and unaware of what the emotional unmet needs are. But once the target (root cause) is known, a winning therapeutic approach can be attained— often within days or hours.

The process is comprised of six steps. The Healology process incorporates unconventional qualitative and quantitative therapeutic research techniques that yield predictive data and a sophisticated emotional unmet need methodology that helps healthcare professionals and patients discover and prioritize hidden therapeutic opportunities.
Evidence-based research explains how, specifically, a client can heal to health to undermine the established one size fits all protocols instead of a trial and error solutions. Most importantly, the Healology process informs clients how to create habits and lifestyle decisions that clients will want to use — and predict which new habits and lifestyle decisions will succeed.
Each step is explained in detail below.
DEFINE THE ROOT CAUSE BEHIND THE LIFESTYLE DISEASE
Healthcare professionals often define the lifestyle disease they treat around the organ and symptoms in their therapeutic offerings — a way that one-day will become obsolete due to technology. Clearly, this approach is misdirected, but it’s one that has been repeated by many institutes and healthcare professionals over the decades. Many healthcare professionals today find themselves in this same situation.
The emotional unmet need, which is the target of everything a body does, should not be defined around something so unstable that it may only remain valid until the next stress trigger iteration. It should be defined around something that is stable for decades, making long-term strategic therapy more attractive and providing the client with a futuristic vision of healthcare. For this reason, Healology defines a healing therapy around the lifestyle diseases it addresses.
The first step in applying Healology therapy is to define the unmet emotional target as “a group of environmental habits (physical and psychological) + the lifestyle disease they are trying to rid”. Parents (subconscious mind/brain) who are trying to pass on life lessons to their children (getting rid of the lifestyle disease) constitute natural self-healing. The passing life lesson may be a negative emotional unmet need that causes and fuels the lifestyle disease.
A root cause (stress trigger) can be an objective, a goal or a task, a problem to be solved, something to be avoided, or anything else that the subconscious mind is trying to resolve.
Defining a stress trigger around the lifestyle disease has many benefits:
It enables the transformation of healing from art to science. Because the healing to health is a process, statistical process with control principles that can be applied to help figure out what factors cause clients to struggle when getting their lifestyle disease under control. Consequently, proven evidence-based qualitative and quantitative Healology research techniques can be applied to discover client’s emotional needs, which are unmet, and which emotional need segments are under- and over-served.
It provides a central focal point to define all clients’ needs. The core stress trigger (inner conflict theme) is the stable, long-term focal point around which all other needs (related, emotional and consumption chain therapy, and therapeutic outcomes) are defined and around which emotional root cause is centered. The Healology offers a starting point from which to understand the stress trigger or root cause from the client’s subconscious mind perspective.
It more accurately defines the exact inner conflict theme. The powerful subconscious mind does not care if your healthcare professional provides conventional drugs, pills, or therapy. The healing to health has no solution boundaries and no therapeutic boundaries. This means that a deep understanding of the root cause will inform the creation of a solution that transcends the traditional competitive pharma drugs.
It acts as protection against environment disruption. A focus on the emotional unmet need keeps the subconscious mind focused on its true mission over the long term — to help itself heal the stress trigger and get better. With an ongoing focus on healing the stress trigger, a client is more likely to make better habits and lifestyle decisions with the right technologies and not miss key opportunities to recover. In addition, they are less likely to get sidetracked by phantom stress triggers or make lifestyle decisions that will fail to get the healing to health done better and/or more permanently.
It provides scientific healing insights into the condition. The human stress triggers have no geographical boundaries. People who live in the USA, France, UK, Germany, South Korea, China, Russia, Brazil and Australia have many stress triggers in common that they are trying to heal to health. The solutions they use to get that done may vary dramatically from geography to geography, but the stress triggers are the same to the specific lifestyle disease. The degree to which the client’s emotional unmet needs are underserved may also vary by geography, depending on the solutions they use, but the collective set of stress triggers to each specific lifestyle disease are the same.
Defining the core root cause
Defining the core functional root cause correctly is a prerequisite to predictable health success. Getting it wrong is a challenge, but getting it right is an opportunity. Healology defines the scientific inner conflict theme so narrowly that will attain the discovery of healing opportunities. Defining the core root cause too broadly will result in non-actionable insights to healing the stress trigger.
Healology has collected research that shows conventional therapeutic protocols only gets part of the therapy done. The goal is to discover the entire mind-organ-brain connection the body is trying to accomplish. This is why it is incorrect to ask from a therapeutic view, “What symptoms do I have to relieve first?” or to ask yourself, “What is the organ mal function?” as these questions may not reveal the entire story. Questioning should not start with which medicine.
For example, if a house is on fire you don’t expect the firefighters to remove the batteries from the fire-alarm “what pain reliever do you give for that pain?”, it is likely they would put out the fire “invasive surgery.” That may be correct, but is just a step in the conventional direction that is ultimately trying to get rid of the disease— which, in our example, is “to put out the fire.” If the fire starter defines the core root cause too broadly, then it is at risk of taking drastic invasive measures (like surgery) with a solution that gets the entire body under unnecessary bigger stress that may or may not cure the disease.
To avoid defining the root cause too broadly, the client must understand how their emotional unmet need fits into what the subconscious mind is trying to accomplish or heal. The question to ask is, “When you find yourself in the phantom stress trigger that you are using the conventional therapy for; what core root cause are you ultimately trying to heal — what is the underlying inner conflict theme?” Or, “what is the overall goal your subconscious is trying to achieve/relieve?”
On the other side of the spectrum, defining the core root cause too narrowly can be difficult, if not impossible, for the subconscious mind to tackle a phantom stress trigger entirety through a mind-organ-brain connection releasing certain chemicals from specific parts of the brain that affects the specific organ showing symptoms of the disease. To avoid this from happening, think about the scientific starting point of the Limbic brain that holds all the emotions forming the lifestyle disease, it’s here that holds the inner conflict theme, its capabilities to heal and ask, “can and will the core root cause be addressed from beginning to end over time?” If the root cause/inner conflict theme does not have or is not able to tackle the broader organ/symptom cause, then the emotional unmet need is defined too broadly from a therapeutic standpoint.
To define the core functional root cause at the right level of art and science of natural healing, guidelines are outlined in my most recent book “Second Chances”. Creating the Healology Map
With the core functional root cause defined, the next step in the Healology process is to create a “Healology map” for that lifestyle disease. A Healology map is a mind-brain depiction of the core emotional unmet need, deconstructed into its discrete process or methodology steps, which explains step-by-step exactly what the body is trying to heal. A Healology map does not show what the body is doing (a solution view); rather, it describes what the body is trying to heal (a needs view).
Analysis of hundreds of inner conflict themes has revealed that all lifestyle diseases consist of some or all of the eight fundamental process steps: define, locate, prepare, confirm, execute, monitor, modify and conclude.

A Healology map is not a patient journey or client experience map: it does not describe the journey the patient/client goes through to heal, transform, mind-set, nutrition, subconscious upgrade and healthy lifestyle habits. These activities are fundamental chain steps that are captured and treated separately. If you are focusing on the healing process or the client experience, you are not focused on the core emotional unmet need.
A good Healology map will describe what the organ/body is trying to do and get to the core root cause independent of the drug or therapy they are using. So whether patients are in the USA, China or Germany, or whether they are using one of ten competing therapies, a single Healology map will describe what each and every patient inner conflict theme is trying to heal. A completed Healology map represents the “ideal process of therapeutic flow” for that lifestyle disease: all the steps in the ideal order for efficient healing to health.
The Healology map is created in order to:
Define the emotion and unmet needs. The completed Healology map lays out the exact strategy and fulfillment for the client— which is a devised holistic solution that gets the entire permanent healing to health on a single Healology platform or with a single Healology offering (which may include RPH method, root cause analysis and therapeutic grade essential oils).
Discover healing opportunities. It is often the case that simple insights to complexities of diseases and innovative healing methodology can come from analyzing the Healology map, as it points out holes and deficiencies in existing conventional solutions.
Guide patient needs and root cause gathering. From a tactical standpoint, the Healology map serves as a framework and a guide for capturing the client’s subconscious desired outcomes or needs. For this reason, the Healology map is created before attempting to capture desired therapeutic protocol or outcome.

UNCOVER THE PATIENT’S “UNMET NEEDS”
Many healthcare professionals believe that it is impossible to know all patient’s subconscious unmet needs and that this knowledge is simply unattainable and unknowable. Healology proves that this is not the case, but there is a common myth that feeds the misconception. The myth is the notion that “People don’t know what they want never mind what their unmet needs are,” implying that clients do not know their “needs” and therefore are incapable of articulating the information that a healthcare provider needs to win at lifestyle diseases.
It is often argued, for example, that, “A patient would have never asked for penicillin.” That is true, but the penicillin is not a need — it is a solution. While patients may not know what solutions they want, they most certainly know their unmet needs (subconsciously or consciously) related to getting their health back. In this case, they know they want to be healthy (the desired outcome) with no infection or side effects, and they want to do it more quickly without having to be in pain or suffer. The problem isn’t that clients don’t know their needs. The problem is that there is confusion and lack of agreement as to what an “unmet need” even is.
Healthcare professionals now have endless amounts of patient data like labs, x-rays, medical history at their disposal. What must they do to extract the patient’s inputs that are needed to make desired health outcome more predictable? Healology’s Innovation process offers a solution. The Healology unmet Needs Framework provides a model for categorizing, defining, capturing, and organizing all your clients’ unmet needs or inner conflict theme related to the respective lifestyle disease.
The Healology unmet Needs Framework
This framework introduces the types of client (subconscious) unmet needs that must be considered to gain a deep understanding of the inner conflict theme a client’s subconscious mind is trying to heal. They include (i) the core root cause, (ii) mind-organ-brain chemical chain reaction, (iii) the desired health outcomes tied to the core root cause and the chemical chain reaction, (iv) related inner conflict theme, (v) emotional and environment, and (vi) the client’s health desired outcomes. For a given lifestyle disease, all unmet needs are defined and centered around the client’s core root cause.
The Healology unmet Needs Framework provides clients and healthcare professionals with a common language around which to define patient inner conflict themes. It takes a multilayered and complex set of mind-organ-brain chain reaction inputs and shows how they should be categorized and organized, why they are captured, and how they should be used. The framework brings order to a historically chaotic process. Knowing exactly what is meant by “unmet need” and knowing what “needs” exist in a subconscious mind changes everything.
THE DESIRED HEALTH OUTCOME
Dr. Hanan has spent over two decades working to “invent” the perfect subconscious unmet need with respective to lifestyle diseases and related organ/symptoms (diagnosis). We have concluded that a perfect subconscious need will clearly describe a patient’s measure of health success associated with getting the healing to health attained. For any given lifestyle disease, patients have many measures of health success, often 100 or more lab analysis. Each one of these specially constructed process, or “desired health outcomes,” describe how it is possible to get the healing needed to better health along a specific dimension: such as speed, predictability, efficiency, permanency, effectiveness for chronic conditions. We define desired health outcomes as evidence-based lab results and patient performance metrics that are tied to the lifestyle disease making health outcomes measurable, controllable and predictable.
Desired mind-organ-brain reaction and outcome are powerful and valuable because they are designed to have a very unique set of characteristics. In a single process or reaction, a desired outcome defines how the subconscious mind is measuring needs and what a patient must control in the design of the solution to satisfy it. The same exact process that comes from the subconscious mind can be used by the entire mind-organ-brain reaction as a focal point around which to create and communicate the root cause awareness along that dimension. In addition to being measureable, controllable and actionable, desired outcome process are purposely designed and structured to be devoid of drug or therapy solutions and stable over time, thus making them useful patient inputs for years to come. Lastly, they can be quantified for importance and satisfaction, making it possible to determine which needs are under- and overserved.
We have defined desired health outcome process to possess these characteristics for one very important reason: defined in this manner, we are able to determine which patient needs (outcomes) are unmet and predict — in advance of therapy development — just what solutions/ideas are most likely to get the patient’s health better and win in the healthcare industry for lifestyle diseases. This is why we often refer to prioritized desired health outcome as “predictive data”.
A desired health outcome includes a direction of improvement, a performance metric (usually time or likelihood), an object of control (the outcome), and a contextual clarifier (describing the context in which the inner conflict theme is healed).

Desired health outcome is uncovered through medical literature searches and through interviewing methods such as personal health outcomes and placebo group reviews, and observational and ethnographic research. While most qualitative research has a short shelf life, a complete set of desired health outcomes for respective lifestyle disease is an important therapeutic asset for years to come as desired outcomes don’t change over time — the personal customized solutions that address them do.

Borrow health and mind hacks from Healology that works
Why reinvent the wheel? Innovation does not necessarily require invention. Innovation is the ability to use existing or new systems to address an unmet client need. By knowing exactly what health outcomes are underserved in a lifestyle disease, a client can analyze their condition to see if any of the chronic conditions or symptoms possesses an emotion or inner conflict theme that addresses one or more of those health outcomes. This tactic can save significant time, effort and therapeutic inputs.
Take obesity, who are looking to discover opportunities to improve healthy habits and programs to fitness.
